Most of the Zejtun Town Council's youth initiatives are organised
by a sub-committee in conjunction with a youth formation called
youths@local. Our programme
of initiatives provides a foundation for youth development and the
opportunity to engage all young people in social and every day life,
development and achievement. Our programmes endevour to prepare
youth to find and take their places in society, which is becoming
ever complex.
Youth coming
from assorted backgrounds will continue to create changes. National
trends continue to affect youth development, families and society.
Our programmes has a proven youth character development process
that assists young people in developing their ability to make
positive life choices based upon sound character and a vision
of a successful future.
The four main dimensions of our activity in this field are:
1. Youth empowerment, Personal & Social Development: through
continuous training programmes, youth activities, projects and
residential seminars. Through these programmes we intend to
achieve:
Empowerment
- Community
values youth: young person perceives that adults in the community
value youth.
- Youth
as resources: young people are given useful roles in the community.

Service to others: young person serves in the community one
hour per week or more.
- Safety:
young person feels safe at home, at school and in the neighborhood.

and Decision-Making: knows how to plan and make choices.

Interpersonal Competence: has empathy, sensitivity and friendship
skills.

Cultural Competence: has knowledge of and comfort with people
of different cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Skills: can resist negative peer pressure and dangerous situations.

Peaceful Conflict Resolution: seeks to resolve conflict non-violently.

2.
Training of youth leaders: youth management of projects where
one would be given the opporutinity to learn how to successfully
apply leadership skills, gain ability to seek out options
from diverse alternatives, gain ability to apply new interpersonal
skills, make goal-oriented and informed decisions, gain ability
to effectively communicate in diverse situations (socially
confident), demonstrate leadership skills in various situations
(as team-player and/or leader), provide a vision and purpose
to a cause, use influence to obtain planned outcomes, develops
a plan, and communicate more openly.
3.
Co-ordination and assistance to local youth voluntary organizations:
through co-ordination of initiatives, training programmes,
open discussions and sharing of resources.
4.
Job Club: Job Club is a training programme intended for youth
seeking employment. The programme provides training in social
skills and job searching skills. This programme is organized
by the Zejtun Town Council in collaboration with the Employment
and Training Corporation.
